Iphone Help?

I have the original iphone and recently i had to restore my computer which meant all of my songs in itunes were deleted. I installed the newest version of itunes ( i think 7. 7) and all of the songs were reinstalled, but when i plugged in my iphone it didn’t show up in itunes ( usually a ipone icon would show up). I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes twice and it still doesn’t show in itunes. i know it inst my usb connection because when i plug in my iphone the camera menu pops up.
